The City of Houston (COH)’s Sunnyside Multi-Service Center has struggled for years with limited parking and inadequate space for the community it serves. To resolve these issues and others, a new two-story building with 56,000 gross square feet will combine the Multi-Service Center program and the COH’s Health Center program into one facility. Facilities like these in Houston are vital to the community as they provide educational resources such as application help for financial assistance, access to basic needs such as healthy food as well as senior citizen community programs and child day care.
The new Sunnyside Multi-Service Center and Health Center will be constructed on a 6.5-acre site developed with a detention area, adequate parking and a community park. It will also include space for clinical services and community center activities. The construction encompasses cutting-edge building technologies for structures, building envelope, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, data-com and building finishes. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2021. The Sunnyside Multi-Service Center and Health Center will be located at 4410 Reed Road with access from both Reed Road and Wilmington Street.
Halford Busby worked with Kirksey Architects to provide estimates at Schematic Design, Design Development, 50 percent Construction Documents and 95 percent Construction Documents stages. The project is estimated at $25 million.
