Architect: VLK Houston
Energy Institute High School is the first school in the United States devoted to preparing students for careers in the energy field. Part of the Houston Independent School District (HISD), Energy Institute is a STEM-focused magnet school that began in the 2014-2015 school year. After operating at two locations, Energy Institute moved to its current location on Southmore Boulevard in Houston in 2018. Working with VLK Houston, Halford Busby provided cost estimating services for the construction of this campus with a quick turnaround time.
Project Features:
- A corporate-like setting prepares nearly 800 students each year for a future career in the energy industry.
- A courtyard serves as the epicenter of the campus, featuring a tiered collaboration area and outdoor instructional spaces.
- All classrooms include the latest in technology, from computers to Smart Interactive TVs. The school also features 21st century labs and a unique Media Lounge for student research.
