Halford Busby teamed with Page Southerland Page Architects on the University of Houston (UH) Parking Garage Number 5 project. Construction of the new parking garage with tenant space is located at the corner of Entrance 18 and Elgin Street in the Arts District. The project includes the construction of approximately 2,500 garage parking spaces with 805,000 gross square feet and approximately 43,000 gross square feet of tenant space. The tenant space includes the Parking and Transportation Department, Public Art Office Suite, School of Art Studio and Exhibition spaces, and Food Service space.
This effort also included additional site work such as demolition, site clearing, etc. The building included a food service area, shell space, restrooms, studio rooms, woodshop and metal shop room, outdoor sculpture work area and a loading dock. The new garage was officially named the Elgin Street Garage when it opened in the fall 2020. It is one of the first two UH parking facilities to have electric vehicle charging stations. The project budget was $62,710,861.
