The goal of the project was to perform engineering services for the preparation of a Preliminary Engineering Report (PER) for the installation of a new seawater intake structure and pump building for the Perry R. Bass (PRB) Fish Hatchery located adjacent to Matagorda Bay close to Palacios, Texas. Halford Busby provided cost estimates for alternative solutions to two existing intake structures, which exhibit acute signs of degradation attributed to storm surge, biofouling, corrosion, sedimentation, debris and age. The final recommendation was the construction of a submerged intake extended ~2,000 feet into the bay and a pump station structure that is located onshore.
