A construction estimate for historic renovation can be challenging. Halford Busby partnered with McCoy Collaborative Preservation Architecture (“McCoy Collaborative”) on the construction estimate of the historical renovation of Sam Houston Memorial Museum’s Steamboat House. (McCoy Collaborative is now part of TreanorHL’s Historic Preservation studio.) This home is where General Sam Houston lived and where his funeral was held. Today, museum goers can tour the interior of the home while visiting Sam Houston Memorial Museum in Huntsville, Texas.

The house was originally built in 1858, presenting some unique challenges for estimating the costs for renovating the building. The charming name of “Steamboat House” was coined since it resembles a double-decked paddle-wheel riverboat.
