In late 2020 – early 2021, Halford Busby worked with architect Page Southerland Page and general contractor Tellepsen to provide cost estimation and reconciliation services on part of the University of Houston (UH)’s Core Renovation project. Halford Busby was involved in estimating construction costs specifically on renovating the UH McElhinney Hall Renovation, which included transforming the third floor of the building into the Hobby School of Public Affairs.
Renovation for the first two floors of the McElhinney building covers roughly 45,000 gross square feet of interior and exterior renovations such as a new storefront entry, new lobby classroom, and office finishes. The project also covered renovating an exterior ramp and sidewalk as well as cleaning and restoring the original limestone. Construction of MEP yard and screen wall was also a part of the project scope.
The scope for the Hobby School on the third floor included a complete gutting of the third floor, plus the addition of new restrooms, partitions, office space, signage, MEP systems, a fire alarm, AV/IT, and security systems. Halford Busby provided two estimates for this project, one at the Schematic Design phase and one at the Design Development milestone.
